Two new technologies, namely, the controllable coal powder vertical kiln calcining technology and heat-storage vertical retort smelting furnace, designed by Shanxi Kede Technical Ceramics Co., Ltd., have been further proved in an industrial production test recently. It comes out with satisfactory expected results according to the designer. According to Mr. Zhang Yuanyou, former general manager of the world largest magnesium smelter, Taiyuan Tongxiang Magnesium Co., Ltd. and now leader of Shanxi Kede, the whole set of these technologies are characterized by the following points.
First, in the traditional vertical calcining kilns, a new technology called controllable coal powder spraying technology will be used to produce qualified raw materials for magnesium reduction process.
Second, the newly designed vertical retort can allow feeding materials from above and unloading below. In this way, a semi-continuous production for the reduction process could be realized.
Third, the heat-storage high-temperature air combustion technology could also be used to this new-type of vertical furnace.
Fourth, heat-exchange technology will be used to cool the reduction slag, from which waste heat will be recycled.
The last renovation occurs to refining furnace, where the heat-storage technology can also be adopted.
According to Mr. Zhang, compared with current magnesium smelting technologies, advantages of his new technologies are outstanding in several aspects below and will meet the goal of the whole industry to save energy and reduce emissions.
From view of energy and resource economy, to produce one metric ton of pure magnesium, the converted standard coal consumption could be reduced from the current 6 tons to only 3 tons. 30% of power consumption cut can be materialized in reduction workshops. What¡¯s more, around 25% water could also be saved in the reduction workshops.
On the other side, more waste emissions could be controlled. Above 70% of carbon dioxide and nitric oxide emissions will be reduced and above 95% of dust & fume emissions can be eliminated.
